Overview

Industrial automation demands deterministic control, flexible I/O and long service life. Programmable logic and embedded processors are a natural fit because they combine hardware-level timing with software-level flexibility, and AMD's Zynq-7000 SoC, Artix-7 FPGA and Ryzen Embedded processors cover the range from motion control to machine HMI. BeiLuo supplies these parts as an authorized AMD distributor with FAE support for control and interface design.

Deterministic Control with the Fabric

The defining requirement of industrial control is determinism: a control loop must execute at a fixed rate regardless of other system activity. An FPGA implements the loop in hardware, so the timing is independent of the operating system and the processor load. The Zynq-7000 SoC goes further by combining the fabric with dual Arm Cortex-A9 cores on one die, so the Arm cores handle networking, HMI and higher-level logic while the fabric closes the fast control loops and generates precise PWM.

Partitioning the Design

A practical partition keeps the latency-critical loops, edge detection and counter logic in the fabric, and leaves communications, storage and application logic on the Arm cores. The two share memory through a defined interface, which keeps the software simple and the hardware focused on timing.

Industrial I/O and Fieldbus

Machines need a broad mix of digital, analog and serial interfaces, and the programmable fabric implements the protocol converters and I/O that a processor cannot expose directly. The Artix-7 XC7A35T provides 33,280 logic cells, 1,800 Kb of block RAM and 90 DSP slices in an industrial-temperature package, enough for protocol conversion, filtering and I/O expansion in a machine controller. The Zynq XC7Z020 adds more logic and 220 DSP slices where the pipeline is heavier.

Combining Control and HMI

Many machines pair the control FPGA with a Ryzen Embedded processor that runs the operator interface and management software. The Ryzen Embedded V2718 integrates Radeon graphics, so a panel PC needs no discrete GPU, and the long-lifecycle family suits multi-year products. The two devices communicate over Ethernet or PCIe.

Why BeiLuo

We hold Artix-7, Zynq-7000 and Ryzen Embedded parts in regional stock and ship them with import, origin and RoHS documentation. Our FAE team supports control partitioning, I/O standard selection and board bring-up, and can review the industrial-temperature and lifecycle requirements of your product.

Designing for the Factory Floor

Industrial products live in a harsher environment than office equipment. Plan for wide temperature ranges, electrical noise on the supply and the I/O, and the vibration of machinery. The FPGA fabric helps here because deterministic hardware is less sensitive to timing jitter than software, and because the programmable I/O can implement the electrical standards a machine needs. Choose industrial temperature grades for the devices you specify, keep the noisy power stage away from the sensitive control logic, and test the design at the temperature and noise extremes it will see in service. Doing this early avoids the expensive discovery of a stability problem after a machine has shipped.
